My next (and first real set) is going to be based off of elements. I have already started working on water, and it is sounding really good (in my opinion). I hope to have them all done.... well, as soon as possible I guess, I'm not sure how long it will take me.
here is a bit of water
Great songs! I could see them in minecraft later.
ReplyDeleteAwesome work, but you need to put up download links so that people can listen to them freely.
ReplyDeleteI got here from your link in your comment on Notch's blog. I listened to a few of your pieces. I would say it's more "muzak" that "music" but that's not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're trying to achieve.
ReplyDeleteI can see your "elemental" pieces here used, in looping form, as the basis of a dynamic music system in a game like Minecraft. Is that the sort of thing you're thinking of? If so, the blandness is no bad thing. You want music that complements gameplay and doesn't detract from it. I certainly wouldn't choose to listen to this as music in its own right.
I am planning to allow download as soon as i return home. Currently I am away so I cannot get to my music to do that. Also, I dont know what you mean by "Muzak", Izzard, but if I understand you right, you feel the music is kinda.... dry? I am not completely sure of what you mean by this so please explain more so I can try to make a piece that more fits your style, because I am sure others share your opinion. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm not Izzard, but I might be able to answer part of your question.
ReplyDeleteMuzak is sometimes ridiculed as 'elevator music' by people who don't like it. But it isn't meant to be liked in its own right exactly, it is usually background music that subtly mirrors in the background what is going on in the story or entertainment.
It isn't meant to draw attention to itself like Rock music does, or any other style of music designed to show off the artist. Think of the unsung hero composers in the Star Trek series. Does anyone know who they are? Does anyone buy their CD's or play them in the car? I would guess not many, if any at all, unless you are going to use it as background for your YouTube Spoof. :)
I LOVE the background music for Poirot, that televised 1920's French Detective by Agatha Christie. I hunted all over for it, but I never found it and I wanted it badly. :( (mild french horn jazz, I believe)
TV shows and movies have background music and most people don't even notice it, but they notice something missing when it isn't there. It lends mood without interrupting the flow of the story. Many older British programs didn't have music and it made them have a certain non-American feel to them as we almost always have music in our shows.
Based on your comment being on the Minecraft blog, I think that is what you intended for your music (which is what I understood Izzard to mean by his comment).
Mario has muzak (repetitive, almost monotonous, background music) any gamer would lovingly recognize but you don't necessarily play it in your car while you're driving. :)
I said I like "Forward" but I also really like "The Little Bit Of Water" but it's just a part of a composition, right?
ReplyDeleteThey sound cheap and nasty. Like they're made with a really, really, really cheap keyboard with only twelve keys. However they do show some talent, so work on making it sound more 'real' and less like a cheap synth.
ReplyDeleteTo Jeanjaz: thanks for explaining "muzak" because i was a bit lost there. also yes, "a bit of water" is just a bit of water. when i get home i will place in the complete water, but release the rest of the pack together.
ReplyDeleteNext!
To Anonymous: i am sorry you feel that way, but A. i am not at all rich myself, and what i have is all i can afford, and B. I actually am looking into other things but cannot do anything with it until i return home. So hopefully i will be able to find a way to make it sound more, "real". one more thought to add in... by real I'm guessing you mean the piano and violin sort of parts?
Thank you guys for the comments, critics, and support. I take it all to thought and will try to apply it to my music... of apparently to some... "Muzak"
